The new instruction aims to eliminate that administrative loop by allowing consular staff to calculate the exact fee once the application is approved. For Nordic-based corporates that rotate employees and their families through India on extended stays, the clarification reduces both cost uncertainty and paperwork. Finance departments should hold payment until the embassy confirms the visa length, while mobility teams should build a few extra days into timelines to accommodate the two-step payment process. The page also re-emphasises that biometric enrolment is not required for visas shorter than five years—a helpful reminder for assignees scheduling appointments in multiple Schengen countries.
