Border guards in Lindau intercepted a French-registered van headed for Munich’s Oktoberfest and discovered a 25-year-old Philippine national who had overstayed her Schengen visa by nearly four years. Lacking valid ID, the woman could show only a mobile-phone photograph of her passport. A search also turned up an unauthorised CS-gas spray. The Federal Police placed her in ‘Zurückweisungshaft’ (pre-removal detention) and filed charges for attempted illegal entry and weapons possession. The French driver was cited for aiding and abetting. The case illustrates Germany’s intensified spot checks since temporary controls were re-activated on all land borders earlier this month. For the hospitality sector, the incident is a reminder that migrant staff and visitors face stricter scrutiny en route to large-scale events.
