MTR Corporation has quietly bolstered its cross-boundary schedule, adding 13 pairs of trains between West Kowloon and Futian plus two pairs to Shenzhenbei from 25 September to 4 October. A further daily Beijing-Hong Kong sleeper pair now runs every Tuesday to Thursday until 8 October, ensuring overnight capacity throughout Golden Week. Tickets for departures within 15 days are on sale via China Railway’s 12306 platform and designated Hong Kong agents. The Same-day Flexi-trip Arrangement—allowing up to three last-minute itinerary changes—also applies on the Futian and Shenzhenbei shuttles. Travel-management companies say the added seats could reduce premium-fare spikes that typically occur when late-booking executives compete with leisure travellers. The upgrade follows record August ridership, when daily patronage surpassed 70,000 for the first time since the route reopened post-pandemic. Immigration counters at West Kowloon will open 90 minutes before departure; passengers using traditional passport lanes rather than Home Visit Permits are advised to budget extra time. For expatriates and long-term assignees who commute regularly to Shenzhen tech parks, the new services mean same-day itineraries remain viable even during peak holiday demand. Employers should update corporate booking tools to surface the added frequencies and remind staff that ID used for ticket purchase must also be presented at boarding. MTR says it will evaluate whether to keep some of the new frequencies permanently if load factors exceed 80 per cent through October, a move that would further integrate labour markets within the Greater Bay Area.
