Delta Air Lines has activated its Northeast Weather Flexibility policy for tickets to, from or through Boston Logan (BOS) amid forecasts of gale-force winds and heavy rain between 26 and 29 September 2026. Customers holding tickets issued on or before 25 September can rebook once, for travel no later than 2 October, without incurring change fees or fare differences—provided the origin and destination remain the same. The waiver comes less than 24 hours after the FAA imposed Ground Delay Programs on several Northeast airports, a move that quickly filled remaining seats on rival carriers and raised the spectre of lengthy call-centre hold times. Corporate mobility managers with employees booked on Delta’s shuttle services between New York and Boston welcomed the proactive measure, noting that the flights are a lifeline for same-day meetings in financial services and biotech. Travel-management companies (TMCs) advise clients to process voluntary changes online via Delta’s “My Trips” portal or the mobile app, both of which now display the waiver banner. For travellers who can’t secure acceptable alternatives, Delta will also allow cancellations in exchange for an e-credit valid for one year from original ticket issuance. Competitors United and JetBlue have announced similar waivers for the same storm system, while American’s waiver—issued two days earlier—remains in effect. With runway configurations at BOS favouring landings over Boston Harbor, strong easterly cross-winds can reduce the airport’s arrival rate by half, cascading delays across the network. Practical tip: companies with split-ticket itineraries (separate bookings for domestic and onward international legs) should synchronise changes on all segments to avoid mis-connects and last-minute fare spikes.
