JetBlue updated its Travel Alerts page at 09:10 a.m. ET on September 29, and Delta extended its Northeast Weather Flexibility waiver on September 27, offering customers travelling through Boston, New York and other regional airports the option to change flights without fees through at least September 30. The powerful coastal storm has already caused hundreds of cancellations and fuel-delivery constraints at Boston Logan. Delta says it is trucking supplemental fuel and operating inbound aircraft with extra reserves; JetBlue is directing passengers who traveled recently in Ebola-affected African countries to review CDC screening guidance—reflecting layered operational challenges. Business travellers should check carrier apps for revised itineraries before heading to the airport and note that same-day standby features may help salvage meetings. Employers with strict travel-approval windows should temporarily relax policies so employees can self-rebook within the waiver rules. Ground transportation is also strained: regional rail lines have reduced service because of flooded tracks, and ride-share surge pricing has spiked. Mobility managers should advise travellers to book hotel rooms near alternative airports like Hartford or Providence in case diversions extend. Looking ahead, airlines warn of residual delays as crews and aircraft reposition. Travellers connecting onward to Europe or trans-Pacific destinations should build in buffer days or arrange virtual participation in time-sensitive events.
