With Golden Week return traffic reaching its climax, Hong Kong’s Transport Department (TD) released a special bulletin at 17:44 HKT on 4 October urging travellers to plan ahead if driving or taking coaches back via land ports and the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge (HZMB). TD forecasts sustained heavy flows through the evening of 4 October and the morning of 5 October as thousands of holiday-makers head home. Motorists were warned of “very busy” conditions at the Zhuhai checkpoint’s vehicle plaza and advised to consult real-time dashboards available on WeChat mini-programs or the TD’s “HKeMobility” app before setting off. The Emergency Transport Coordination Centre has asked bus, rail and ferry operators to add services; MTR is running additional East Rail Line trains and cross-boundary coach operators have put standby vehicles on key routes. TD reminded passengers that waiting times for public transport at ports such as Lok Ma Chau & Shenzhen Bay could lengthen during peak hours. Travellers should allow extra time for immigration, ticket purchase and baggage screening. Businesses with employee shuttles or time-sensitive cargo were urged to communicate contingency plans and consider off-peak crossings. The advisory also announced timetable changes to the high-speed rail: from 11 October certain West Kowloon–Zhanjiang West trains will add a stop at Taishan, and extra holiday services on the Hong Kong–Futian shuttle remain in place through 4 October. These adjustments give corporates more flexibility but require updated travel-approval workflows. Frequent travellers can sign up for push notifications via “HKeMobility” and the government’s “iAM Smart” platform; TD said major incidents will trigger simultaneous alerts to keep the public—and corporate mobility teams—informed in real time.
