Budget Day Road Closures and Bus Éireann Cancellations to Disrupt Dublin Business Travel
An Garda Síochána will seal off Kildare Street, Molesworth Street and parts of Merrion Square from 22:00 tonight (5 October) until 23:55 tomorrow to facilitate Budget 2027 proceedings in Leinster House. Bus Éireann has warned of diversions and cancellations on multiple Expressway routes serving Dublin Airport and the city’s central business district. The operator’s service-update portal lists more than 25 cancelled or delayed departures across Routes 100X, 101, 103, 109 and 133, with further knock-ons expected during the morning rush hour. The company advises travellers to allow additional time and to consult the TFI Live app for real-time information. Private coach companies are likely to mirror diversions, and taxi ranks on the affected streets will relocate. For corporates flying clients into Dublin for Tuesday meetings, the combination of diversions and the city-wide 30 km/h limit could add 40 minutes to the usual 30-minute transfer from the airport to the Silicon Docks district. Travel managers are urged to re-route guests via Port Tunnel–North Quays corridors or book hotels within walking distance of meeting venues. Road closures around Government Buildings have become an annual fixture on Budget Day, but 2026 marks the first time restrictions run for nearly 26 hours, reflecting heightened security after recent protests. Employers with shift workers should confirm alternative public-transport options; failure to do so may breach Working Time Act obligations if staff incur excessive commute times. Meanwhile, rail operator Iarnród Éireann says DART and commuter services will continue to call at Pearse and Tara Street stations but warns of platform crowding. Cycle-share users should note that docking stations on Molesworth and Kildare Streets will be offline.
