Effective 1 October 2026, the Czech Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria, introduced a new, email-based appointment system for selected categories of short-stay (Schengen) visa applicants. According to a consular notice published on 6 October 2026, Czech inviting entities—such as companies, conference organisers, football clubs, and cultural institutions—must now email the embassy with the traveller’s details, purpose of visit, and travel dates. The embassy will then allocate a submission slot within roughly two weeks, subject to capacity. The change applies to applications for business meetings, professional sports (including Nigeria’s numerous football exports bound for Czech clubs), cultural exchanges, internships, and conference participation. Tourism, family visits, seasonal work, and other categories must still use the embassy’s online booking portal, with the next registration window scheduled for 15 October 2026 (08:00–14:00 CEST). Long-term visa and residence-permit appointments remain unaffected. For Czech companies recruiting talent or hosting West African partners, the switch promises greater predictability: slots are allocated continuously rather than on a “first-click” basis on monthly release days that often crashed under high demand. However, corporate HR departments now bear the administrative burden of collating applicant lists and liaising with the consulate, and must factor in the two-week lead time when planning project kick-offs in Prague or Brno. Nigeria is Czechia’s second-largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa, with two-way trade surpassing €280 million in 2025. The smoother visa pipeline is expected to support post-pandemic rebounds in trade fairs, machine-tool exports, and professional football transfers. Nevertheless, applicants are reminded that standard Schengen processing times (15 calendar days, extendable to 45) still apply, and biometric capture at the TLScontact centre in Abuja remains mandatory. Practical tip: Czech host organisations should send consolidated appointment requests to abuja.consulate@mzv.gov.cz with passport data pages attached and should clarify whether travellers will need multiple-entry visas for onward trips within the Schengen Area.
