Finnair’s latest traffic statistics show that business travel through Helsinki is gathering momentum again. In figures released on 7 October 2026, the flag-carrier said it handled 1,112,200 passengers in September—up 9.6 % year-on-year. Capacity measured in available seat-kilometres rose 6.8 %, with the strongest growth on North-Atlantic routes where many Finnish multinationals are once more sending staff to the United States. European and Asian capacity also expanded, supported by the continuing recovery of meetings-and-events travel to hubs such as Frankfurt, London and Tokyo. Domestic traffic was the only weak spot as more Finns opt for rail on the country’s busiest trunk corridors. The stronger demand is translating into healthier yields. Revenue per available seat-kilometre jumped 15.8 %, while the network-wide passenger load factor climbed to 79.9 %. Cargo—an important revenue hedge for the airline’s long-haul network—grew 4.5 %, driven mainly by trans-Atlantic flows of high-tech components and pharmaceuticals. Punctuality, a key buying criterion for travel managers, remained solid at 83.6 % of flights arriving on schedule. For global mobility managers the figures are a leading indicator that long-haul capacity out of Helsinki will continue to tighten during the northern winter season. Companies with relocation or assignment activity should therefore lock in seats early, especially on North-Atlantic sectors where capacity growth (59.9 %) is still catching up with pent-up demand. Higher load factors could also mean fewer last-minute award seats for travellers using corporate loyalty points. Finnair continues to suspend flights to the Middle East because of the regional security situation, forcing assignees bound for Gulf postings to route via European partners. The carrier will publish October data on 6 November; analysts expect another solid month thanks to Finland’s autumn holiday peak. Travel buyers will watch closely whether the airline can sustain its improved RASK without prompting competitors to deploy additional capacity into the Nordic market. In the wider context of Finland’s attractiveness as a regional hub, a healthy national carrier is critical. Frequent flights to Asia, Europe and North America underpin Helsinki’s status as a relocation gateway for multinational staff and their families. Finnair’s September performance therefore sends a positive signal to employers planning 2027 talent moves into or through Finland.
