Hong Kong’s Transport Department (TD) has issued a comprehensive special-traffic bulletin covering the last day of National Day Golden Week and the upcoming Hong Kong Cyclothon on 11 October. The notice, timestamped 20:39 HKT on 7 October, warns that land boundary control points, airport coach routes and key highway corridors will face heavy congestion through the weekend. TD forecasts longer waiting times for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge ‘Gold Bus’ shuttle, Lok Ma Chau–Huanggang ‘Yellow Bus’ and franchised “B” routes serving border checkpoints. Travellers are urged to plan journeys outside peak hours, pre-book cross-boundary coach tickets and monitor real-time traffic via the HKeMobility and Easy Boundary apps. Separately, extensive road closures will come into force from 01:00 on Sunday for the Hong Kong Cyclothon, affecting major arteries including Ting Kau Bridge, West Kowloon Highway and the Central Kowloon Bypass. Diversion schemes have been mapped to protect airport access, but TD cautions that journey times from New Territories West to Chek Lap Kok could lengthen significantly. Ferry operations are also disrupted: selected Ma Wan–Central and Ma Wan–Tsuen Wan sailings have been replaced by temporary bus NR338S on 8 October due to crew rostering constraints. Meanwhile, MTR Corporation is adding East Rail services through 7 October to cope with Golden Week demand. Global mobility teams moving visitors, assignees or event participants into or out of Hong Kong over the next four days should circulate TD’s hyperlink-rich notice, build in generous buffers for airport transfers and consider shifting departures earlier in the day. Employers of cross-boundary motorists should remind staff to check variable-message signs near Shenzhen Bay and Lok Ma Chau for ad-hoc controls.
