Charleroi air-traffic-controller night strikes suspended—but risk of renewal remains
Strike-monitoring platform *Strike Tracker* reports that the nightly industrial action by skeyes air-traffic controllers at Brussels South Charleroi Airport has been suspended as of 23 September to allow mediation talks, but could restart at short notice if negotiations fail. The walk-out had previously halted all movements between 22:00 and 08:00, forcing airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air to reroute or cancel late and early flights. Although the suspension means no nightly disruptions are expected for the moment, the mediation window runs only until 10 October, coinciding with broader nationwide labour unrest. Corporate travel managers should therefore keep contingency arrangements—such as shifting red-eye flights to Brussels Airport or Lille—on standby. The uncertainty is particularly relevant for multinational firms that rely on Charleroi’s low-cost network to rotate technicians and project teams between Belgium and Central-Eastern Europe. Missed connections can cascade into lost production time and additional accommodation costs. Travellers holding tickets during the potential relapse period should ensure airlines have accurate contact details and verify whether credit-card travel insurance covers consequential losses. Skeyes, the Belgian air-navigation-service provider, says it will provide 48-hour notice if talks collapse, but previous industrial disputes have escalated with minimal warning. Employers are advised to register for airport and union alert services and to brief employees on alternative ground transport, as last-minute seat availability on Brussels-bound trains is often limited during strike periods.
