An Garda Síochána has launched a multi-day policing operation around Dublin Castle and the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel to secure the informal meeting of EU development ministers taking place on 8–9 October as part of Ireland’s Council presidency. Road closures on Castle Street and surrounding lanes will run until 31 December to cover the full presidency calendar, while shorter ‘rolling’ closures are scheduled during ministerial convoys. All delegates are funneled through Dublin Airport, but Gardaí say normal flight operations will continue. The force is coordinating with Transport Infrastructure Ireland and public-transport providers to minimise disruption, yet commuters can expect delays around the south city centre during morning peak on 9 October. In parallel, the Irish Aviation Authority has issued Temporary Restricted Airspace (TRA) notices and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) geographic-zone prohibitions over the venues. Drone-detection systems will be deployed, and breaches may trigger criminal investigation. Mobility and events managers bringing staff or clients into Dublin during the presidency should therefore check TRA maps and advise travellers to keep drones grounded. The operation offers a dry-run for security measures expected later in the presidency when Justice and Home Affairs ministers convene—a meeting that historically triggers temporary Schengen suspension in some EU capitals. Although Ireland is not in Schengen, heightened security can translate into longer immigration queues; employers should factor extra transfer time into itineraries. Companies hosting side-events near the cordon are urged to register attendees in advance and carry photo ID to ease passage through checkpoints. Real-time updates will appear on the @gardainfo and @gardatraffic X accounts, which mobility teams should monitor.
