The Australian Border Force has advised freight forwarders and customs brokers that the Integrated Cargo System (ICS) was taken offline from 23:00 AEDT on 10 October until 04:00 AEDT on 11 October for scheduled maintenance. The five-hour shutdown, flagged in a Freight & Trade Alliance bulletin, prevented electronic lodgement of import declarations, air-cargo reports and underbond movements. While the outage window straddled a low-volume period, industry users were urged to pre-lodge critical consignments or arrange manual fallback procedures. Failure to do so can trigger storage fees and missed ‘first-free’ port days, especially for perishable or time-critical shipments. ABF said the upgrade was necessary to patch cybersecurity vulnerabilities and prepare for forthcoming enhancements that will allow real-time status alerts through the ICS mobile portal. Further maintenance is tentatively scheduled for November, pending stakeholder consultation. Global mobility teams moving household goods or project cargo into Australia this week should check with brokers to confirm that entries have been re-submitted and that any impacted containers have been released.
