Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs refreshed its travel advice for Cyprus on 11 October, keeping the Mediterranean island in its lowest warning category but reminding Spanish nationals to store the embassy’s 24-hour emergency number (+357 99 581 953) in case of detention, accident or other serious incidents. The advisory reiterates that tourists can stay visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period and notes that immigration officers may refuse entry if they have concerns about previous or planned travel to the island’s northern part. Travellers intending to cross the Green Line are urged to carry passports rather than national ID cards and to purchase the compulsory third-party vehicle insurance sold at the checkpoints. For business travellers, the ministry points out that equipment or samples carried over the line are subject to customs inspection, and that goods originating in the north cannot be imported into the Republic of Cyprus without meeting EU sanitary and phytosanitary standards. The update also reminds Spanish companies of seasonal wildfire risks and advises monitoring local media for road closures. While the security situation remains calm, the ministry says regional tensions could affect air routes and urges passengers to reconfirm flights. HR teams relocating Spanish staff to Cyprus should make sure that employees have registered on the ‘Registro de Viajeros’ platform so they can receive rapid SMS alerts in the event of a consular emergency.
