Border guards at the Zosin (PL)–Ustyluh (UA) road checkpoint detained a Ukrainian passenger on 8 October after a routine inspection uncovered a 9 mm Fort-12 RM pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition hidden under his jacket. The arrest was announced on 13 October by the Nadbużański Border Guard Division. The individual faces up to eight years’ imprisonment under Article 263 §2 of the Polish Criminal Code for possession of firearms without a permit. Authorities note that the case underscores strict rules requiring travellers to declare any weapons at EU external borders and present export or import licences. The incident prompted a temporary 30-minute closure of the passenger lane while explosives specialists verified that no additional contraband was present. No flights or rail services were affected, but road traffic backed up for roughly one kilometre. Business mobility professionals should remind assignees entering Poland from non-Schengen countries that failure to declare weaponry—even legally owned sidearms—can lead not only to criminal charges but also to entry bans and confiscation of vehicles.
