Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade refreshed multiple Smartraveller advisories on 15 October 2026. Israel’s overall level was lifted to ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ amid escalating regional tensions, while Indonesia remains at ‘Exercise a high degree of caution’ but now includes specific warnings about haze disruptions in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Thailand, Mauritius and Mexico were also updated. The changes trigger automatic notifications for registered Australian travellers and oblige Australian-based employers to review duty-of-care obligations for staff in or transiting the affected countries. Under many corporate travel-insurance policies, an advice level of 3 (‘Reconsider’) can invalidate cover unless a formal waiver is secured. Risk-management teams should re-run traveller-location reports and communicate contingency plans. For Indonesia, the haze advisory may affect fly-in-fly-out workers in resources projects, potentially disrupting connections through Pekanbaru and Palembang. DFAT reiterated that citizens should subscribe to Smartraveller updates and ensure travel insurance remains valid for their destination and planned activities.
