The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) reported on 15 October that the city welcomed approximately 4.03 million visitor arrivals in September, a 22 percent jump year-on-year. Cumulative arrivals for the first nine months of 2026 have now surpassed 40 million, putting Hong Kong on track to exceed the HKTB’s full-year forecast of 52 million. Mainland Chinese tourists remain the dominant segment, but the strongest growth came from short-haul markets such as Singapore and South Korea, thanks to aggressive MICE promotions and event tourism. Flagship happenings last month included the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival and the Worldwide Chinese Life Insurance Congress, each drawing well-heeled business delegates. Hotel average daily rates rose 11 percent compared with September 2025, while airport passenger throughput reached 5.7 million, its highest monthly total since 2019. Cathay Pacific said corporate bookings were up 18 percent quarter-on-quarter, led by finance, pharmaceuticals and luxury retail sectors. For employers relocating staff to Hong Kong, the numbers signal tightening accommodation supply in core districts during peak convention periods. Mobility teams should book serviced apartments early and consider Kowloon East or the Northern Metropolis for mid-term stays. The HKTB will continue to focus on “Only-in-Hong Kong” experiences and digital pass bundles to extend visitor length of stay, a strategy that could sustain the rebound into the traditionally softer first quarter of 2027.
