Germany’s Bundespolizei in Ludwigsdorf reported eight breaches of the Residence Act during intensified checks along the Görlitz–Berggießhübel corridor between 19 and 21 October 2026. Officers apprehended five Ukrainian, two Azerbaijani and one Moldovan nationals travelling on Schengen visas obtained with false information or overstaying the 90/180-day rule. Two Azerbaijani men had already been turned back at the Czech–German frontier the previous day but re-entered hours later, prompting fresh criminal proceedings and a formal entry ban. A Moldovan tourist was found to have spent more than five months in the Schengen Area without a residence permit; his passport was confiscated pending removal. The Ukrainians were likewise returned to Poland after exceeding their permitted stay. The operation underscores Germany’s stricter enforcement posture ahead of the winter holiday season and the ongoing temporary controls on several internal borders. Companies employing non-EU contractors who move frequently within the Schengen Zone are reminded to track cumulative days carefully and to verify that business-traveller visas are genuine. Failure to comply can lead to entry refusals, fines against employers under § 404 AufenthG and delays to cross-border projects, particularly in the construction and IT-installation sectors common in Saxony.
