Dubai Raises and Lowers Speed Limits on Five Key Arterial Roads
The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has tweaked speed limits on five busy corridors in Dubai, effective 1 November 2026. Three roads—Al Asayel, Al Mustaqbal and Latifa bint Hamdan—will see limits increased from 60 km/h to 70-80 km/h, while Al Rebat and Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah Streets will drop by 10-20 km/h. All speed-camera thresholds are being recalibrated ahead of launch. For business travellers and assignees who often rely on ride-hailing or self-drive rentals, the mix of higher and lower limits could be confusing. The RTA reminds motorists that Dubai Police generally apply a 20 km/h grace margin over the posted limit, but only up to a point; exceeding that buffer attracts fines of Dh 600 to Dh 3,000, up to 23 black points and possible vehicle impoundment. Corporate fleet managers should update GPS navigation presets and driver handbooks to avoid inadvertent violations, particularly on Al Rebat Street, a main artery to Dubai International Airport. Logistics operators moving goods between Jebel Ali Free Zone and Dubai South may welcome the higher limits on Al Asayel, which should shave a few minutes off delivery windows during off-peak hours. The announcement is part of a broader RTA review that analyses accident hot-spots and traffic-flow data city-wide. Officials note that previous limit adjustments on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road cut serious accidents by 25 per cent. Even with the grace buffer, observers expect an initial spike in speeding tickets as drivers adjust. Mobility advisers should therefore flag the change in pre-assignment briefings and encourage employees to use journey-planning apps that reflect live speed-limit data.
