Gulf Air and Turkish Airlines have signed an expanded codeshare that immediately adds Vienna, Budapest, Prague and Venice to their joint network. Vienna International Airport (VIE) will be served via Istanbul on a single ticket, with through-checked baggage and coordinated flight schedules that trim connection times for business travellers.
For Austrian corporates the deal is more than a tourism play. Bahrain has become an emerging hub for energy, finance and advanced manufacturing; easier one-stop access lets Austrian suppliers reach Gulf projects without the extra overnight in Dubai or Doha. Conversely, Bahraini investors can now attend board meetings in Vienna and Central Europe on morning departures and same-day arrivals.
The partnership also hedges against capacity constraints at VIE. While Austrian Airlines and Emirates dominate direct Austria–Gulf frequencies, the new codeshare injects competition and should put downward pressure on business-class fares just as 2026 budgeting cycles begin. Travel managers may wish to renegotiate corporate deals to take advantage of the additional routings.
Practical tip: travellers still need a Schengen visa when ticketed on Gulf Air’s ‘GF’ code, even if the long-haul segment is on Turkish metal. Mobility teams should check that passenger passports carry at least three blank pages to avoid Istanbul transit issues.
