Spanish flag-carrier Iberia has activated its ‘latest-update’ protocol, offering no-fee date or route changes for travellers ticketed on Madrid–Brussels flights between 10 and 16 May. The advisory follows notice of a 24-hour general strike across Belgium scheduled for 12 May, which threatens to shut down Brussels Zaventem airport and disrupt Eurocontrol air-traffic flows. Customers who booked directly with Iberia before 30 April can switch to any flight on the same route—or to an airport within 300 km—without fare difference. Those booked via agencies must process changes through the issuing agent. The carrier is also pledging to cover up to three nights of accommodation and basic expenses if disruption strands passengers. For corporate-travel managers, the waiver is significant: Brussels is a top destination for EU-affairs, pharma and tech executives based in Spain. With meetings linked to the European Parliament’s final plenary before the summer recess, demand is high and alternative routings via Paris, Amsterdam or Düsseldorf are already pricing up.
