The agency said it is now targeting facilitators “further upstream”, sending officers to Libya, Iraq and Türkiye to disrupt supply chains for inflatable boats and outboard engines. Thirty-nine smuggling suspects were arrested outside the UK following joint operations with Belgian, French and Kurdish authorities. For employers, the crackdown matters because tougher enforcement at ports and in the hiring chain often leads to more on-site immigration audits. Sponsors should ensure right-to-work files are watertight and be ready for unannounced Home Office visits. Logistics firms in Kent and East Sussex can also expect greater scrutiny of freight manifests as agencies search for clandestine migrants in lorries. The spike in arrests shows that political pressure to ‘stop the boats’ is translating into operational tempo. Mobility programmes that route shipments or travelling staff through Dover, Folkestone or the Channel Tunnel may face short-notice inspections and traffic delays, particularly during peak holiday weekends.
