India’s newest greenfield airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is officially runway-ready after completing a full aircraft turnaround trial using an IndiGo A320 on 9 June. The Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) exercise validated docking guidance, boarding bridges, ground power, baggage belts and ILS navigation procedures, airport officials told The New Indian Express. Commercial services will begin on 15 June with IndiGo operating the inaugural domestic rotation; Akasa Air and Air India Express follow days later. Initial capacity is pegged at 12 million passengers a year, scalable to 70 million in future phases that include a second runway and dedicated cargo hub. For corporate mobility planners the opening is a game-changer for the National Capital Region (NCR). Located roughly 75 km south-east of Delhi’s IGI Airport, Noida International (IATA code expected shortly) will shorten commutes for expatriates and business travellers based in Noida, Greater Noida and key manufacturing clusters in western Uttar Pradesh. Early route maps show direct links to Bengaluru, Navi Mumbai and Hyderabad, reducing pressure on Delhi’s congested Terminal 1 and unlocking same-day connections to southern tech corridors. Ground-transport options include a 4-lane spur to the Yamuna Expressway and a planned high-speed metro extension tying the airport to Noida’s Sector 137 in under 25 minutes. Relocation firms are already updating housing advisories, projecting that rental demand may shift south-east as commuting patterns adjust. International flights are slated for late 2026; aviation analysts expect Gulf carriers and Lufthansa Group members to be among the first applicants for slots, given the airport’s proximity to a young, skilled workforce.
