Low-cost carrier Wizz Air will launch a thrice-weekly service between Prague (PRG) and Poprad-Tatry (TAT) from 25 October 2026, the airline confirmed on 11 June. Flights will operate on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, perfectly timed for weekend business or leisure trips: Saturday departures leave Prague at 07:35 with a Sunday evening return at 18:50. Introductory return fares start at €42, matching Wizz Discount Club prices for non-members. The 400-kilometre route, previously unserved by scheduled flights, cuts rail journey times of 6-7 hours down to a 65-minute hop across the High Tatras. Corporate travel managers say the connection will be attractive for Czech manufacturing firms with facilities in eastern Slovakia, as well as for winter-sports incentives once the ski season starts in November. Poprad Airport, located 15 minutes from Slovakia’s largest mountain resorts, handled just 200,000 passengers last year and is actively courting Central European city pairs. For Prague Airport, the announcement underscores its strategy of adding niche regional links to complement long-haul expansion. Wizz Air, already the airport’s fifth-largest carrier by seats, will base a fifth A321neo in Prague this winter, creating 40 local jobs. The carrier hinted that “further Central European point-to-point routes” could follow if the Poprad service performs well. Travellers should note that Wizz Air’s basic fare includes only a small personal item; overhead-bin bags and seat selection carry extra fees. Because Poprad-Tatry is a non-Schengen airport until Slovakia completes its biometric EES rollout next spring, passengers will undergo passport control on arrival. Ticket sales opened at noon on 11 June and the first Saturday departures in late October were already 30 per cent sold within six hours, according to the airline’s booking engine.
