Failure to comply can halt the 12-week clock and prolong detention. Shipping, cruise and energy companies operating in Canary Islands waters—where boat landings are common—face added duty-of-care duties for rescued crew or subcontractors. Looking forward, Spain will convene the EU Technical Forum on Solidarity on 15 June to finalise burden-sharing details. If relocation quotas materialise, global employers may find certain assignee nationalities processed in other EU states, altering family-reunion timelines.
