The Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) unveiled a nationwide awareness campaign on 16 June aimed at helping Brazilian and foreign passengers detect the early warning signs of human-trafficking when departing the country’s main gateways. Materials branded “Vai viajar? Fique atento(a)!” (“Travelling? Stay alert!”) were rolled out at São Paulo/Guarulhos and Rio de Janeiro/Galeão, and will be expanded to other international airports over the northern-hemisphere summer peak. Developed by the National Secretariat for Justice in partnership with the Federal Police, the Foreign Ministry and UN agencies (IOM and UNODC), the initiative lists typical red-flags—such as unsolicited job offers, pressure to conceal information from immigration officers or tickets paid by strangers—and advises travellers to keep personal documents under their own control. Corporate mobility managers are encouraged to circulate the guidance to assignees and short-term business travellers, particularly those heading to contingent-labour hot-spots in North America, Europe and the Gulf. The campaign also provides QR-codes linking to emergency contacts and explains how victims can seek help from Brazilian embassies abroad. According to MJSP data, reports of Brazilians lured overseas for forced labour grew 37 % in 2025; the majority of cases originated at GRU or GIG airports. By integrating airport operators and airlines into the response chain, Brasilia hopes to replicate the success of the “Blue Heart” model used in Europe.
