Filipinos gain streamlined UAE entry with new on-arrival visa option
Filipino passport holders planning a trip to Dubai or Abu Dhabi no longer need to secure a visitor visa in advance—provided they already hold a valid long-term visa or green card from one of ten highly industrialised economies. In the early hours of 25 June, state daily Al-Khaleej reported that the UAE’s new policy is now live at all ports of entry, granting eligible Filipinos either a 14-day or 60-day visa on arrival. According to the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, travellers must present a Philippine passport valid for at least six months, together with proof of residence in the United States, any EU country, the UK, Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Canada or New Zealand.

If you’re unsure about your eligibility or simply want professional help navigating UAE entry rules, VisaHQ offers end-to-end support through its dedicated portal for the United Arab Emirates (https://www.visahq.com/united-arab-emirates/). The platform allows you to upload documents, track application status in real time and get expert advice—useful not only for this visa-on-arrival option but also for work permits, status changes and other regional travel needs.

At the immigration counter, visitors can choose between a 14-day visa (AED 100, extendable once for the same duration at AED 250) or a 60-day non-extendable visa (AED 250). Payments may be made by credit card or UAE dirhams, and visas are printed instantly after fingerprinting. The UAE hosts an estimated 750,000 Filipino expatriates, and Manila-Dubai is one of the world’s busiest air corridors. The on-arrival facility is therefore expected to boost “balik-bayan” family visits while also enabling quicker deployment of professionals on short-term assignments. Airlines such as Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines have already updated their boarding-gate guidance, removing the pre-approved UAE visa check for qualifying passengers. Travel-risk advisers note that while the new process is simple, it does not replace the UAE’s work-authorisation requirements. Philippine nationals arriving to take up employment must still obtain the relevant work permit and Emirates ID after entry. Employers should also remember that the 14-day visa can only be extended once; a status change or exit-re-entry run will be required for longer engagements. At a bilateral level, the concession signals deepening UAE–Philippines ties ahead of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2028. Philippine tourism officials are reciprocating by fast-tracking e-visa processing for Emirati travellers, aiming to double UAE arrivals to the archipelago by 2027.
