Norwegian to launch direct Helsinki–Tromsø flights, boosting Nordic connectivity
Airport operator Finavia confirmed on Monday that low-cost carrier Norwegian will open a twice-weekly service between Helsinki Airport and Tromsø from 18 November 2026 to mid-March 2027. The announcement, published in Finavia’s newsroom on 29 June 2026, marks the first nonstop link between the Finnish capital and Arctic Norway and comes as Helsinki seeks to consolidate its role as a transfer hub for Asian and North-American traffic bound for the High North. Flights are scheduled for Wednesdays and Sundays, timed to connect with Finnair and oneworld partner banks at Helsinki-Vantaa.

To make the most of the new link, travellers will want to ensure that any Schengen or transit documentation is in order. VisaHQ’s quick online tool (https://www.visahq.com/finland/) helps passengers check visa requirements for both Finland and Norway, submit applications and track approvals—saving time that can be better spent planning aurora excursions or client meetings.

Tromsø has rapidly emerged as a winter hotspot thanks to aurora tourism, cruise turn-arounds and a growing conference sector focused on polar research and green shipping. In 2025 – 26 the destination handled a record 2.7 million passenger movements, up 18 % year on year. For Finnish exporters the route offers a new weekend option for in-person meetings with Norway’s seafood, defence-technology and offshore-wind clusters, which are largely centred in Tromsø’s business park. Conversely, Norwegian SMEs gain easier access to Finland’s semiconductor and battery-materials ecosystems along the Northern Growth Corridor. Finavia says the connection will also diversify the winter schedule at Helsinki, offsetting seasonality caused by slower demand on Asian long-haul sectors. Travellers from Japan and South Korea, two of Finnish tourism’s fastest-growing source markets, will be able to reach Tromsø with a single, Schengen-area transfer instead of connecting via Oslo or Copenhagen. Ticket sales opened immediately on Norwegian’s website, with launch fares starting at €79 one-way including carry-on. Finavia expects the route to carry at least 15,000 passengers in its inaugural season and notes that other Nordic point-to-point announcements are likely before the end of the year.
