Rio’s Galeão Airport forecasts 1.7 million passengers for July peak, adds New York and Córdoba links
RIOgaleão, the concessionaire operating Rio de Janeiro/Galeão–Tom Jobim International Airport, expects almost 1.7 million passengers during the July holiday peak—7 percent more than in 2025. Of that total, 580 000 will be international travellers, a 19 percent year-on-year jump driven by new long-haul capacity and Argentina’s leisure demand. The airport projects about 11 000 aircraft movements this month, including 3 300 international flights. São Paulo, Salvador and Porto Alegre remain the top domestic city-pairs, while Buenos Aires, Santiago and Panama City lead the overseas league table.

While finalizing itineraries, travelers—especially those on short-notice corporate assignments—can streamline visa and passport formalities through VisaHQ, which offers online processing for Brazil and more than 200 other destinations. The platform’s expedited options and door-to-door courier service can help avoid last-minute snags during the peak July rush.

Two route launches underpin the forecast. Gol’s new nonstop to New York/JFK (three weekly flights beginning 8 July) restores a link last served in 2024, offering 900 incremental weekly seats in each direction. On the regional front, Aerolíneas Argentinas returns to Córdoba with four weekly Boeing 737 flights, reinforcing Argentina–Brazil VFR and ski-season flows. For mobility managers, the extra capacity means greater seat availability and potentially softer fares on key corporate corridors. Multinational firms with Rio operations should review ground-transport and meet-and-greet contracts, as peak-day passenger throughput is set to exceed 56 000—close to pre-pandemic levels. Cargo planners likewise gain uplift for time-critical shipments; Galeão’s bond warehouses have extended operating hours until 01:00 local during the peak window. The uptick also underscores Rio’s rebound as an international hub following infrastructure upgrades and the state government’s reduced ICMS aviation-fuel tax. If demand materialises as projected, airport executives hinted they will fast-track talks with TAP and Iberia for second-daily European rotations for the 2026/27 winter IATA season.
