Tour de France stage triggers temporary air-restriction zones over Provence
France’s civil-aviation authority (DGAC) issued SUP AIP 149/2026 activating two temporary restricted zones (ZRT) on 9 July to protect low-flying TV helicopters and emergency services during the Tour de France’s sixth stage between Salon-de-Provence and Sisteron. The airspace blocks, valid from 09:30 to 18:00 local time, sit beneath the busy Marseille terminal area and intersect several corporate-jet routes.

Foreign crews, journalists, and support teams heading to Provence who still need Schengen documentation can streamline formalities through VisaHQ’s dedicated France portal. The service offers expedited visa processing, invitation letters, and up-to-the-minute entry guidance—particularly useful when last-minute airspace adjustments force itinerary changes.

Pilots operating VFR and IFR flights must file rerouted flight plans or risk interception by air-defence units policing the race. Business-aviation service JetFly reports at least eight last-minute slot cancellations into Avignon and Aix-Les-Milles as operators failed to obtain required clearances. While the annual cycling race is a known fixture, the exact routing is often finalised only days before, challenging mobility planners. Freight forwarders moving time-critical pharmaceuticals from the Marseille biotech cluster to northern Europe have been advised to shift loads overnight or truck them to Lyon before air export. DGAC reminds operators that penalties for unauthorised entry can reach €15,000 and suspension of the aircraft’s air-worthiness certificate. Companies with shuttle flights for site visits in Provence should review insurance clauses covering airspace infringements. The ZRTs will be deactivated at 18:00, but similar restrictions will appear daily along the Tour’s route until 26 July. Affected firms should subscribe to DGAC’s “Flash NOTAM Pro” alert to receive updates 48 hours in advance.
