Hong Kong’s Transport Department has announced a significant capacity boost on the Guangzhou–Shenzhen–Hong Kong High-Speed Rail (HSR) corridor to meet heavy summer demand. According to a 21 July 2026 special traffic notice, additional trains will run between West Kowloon Station and Futian as well as Shenzhenbei on multiple weekends: 25–26 July and 1–2, 8–9, 15–16, 22–23 August. Designated G-series services (including G5834/G5836 southbound and G5833/G5835 northbound, among others) have been slotted into the timetable, with tickets available immediately through China Railway’s 12306 platform, accredited agents, or the West Kowloon ticket hall. The move follows record cross-boundary passenger numbers since quarantine-free travel fully resumed earlier this year. Corporate‐travel analysts say weekday trains on the short 14-minute hop to Futian are already running close to capacity, and weekend leisure traffic is pushing load factors beyond 95 per cent. The extra frequencies will raise total seat supply by roughly 18,000 seats per operating weekend, easing pressure on both standard and business-class allocations. For mobility and relocation specialists, the enhanced service strengthens same-day connectivity between Hong Kong’s financial district and Shenzhen’s tech parks, cutting reliance on road crossings that remain vulnerable to weather-related closures. It also provides contingency routing for assignees transiting through Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, which is increasingly used as an alternative to Hong Kong International Airport for Mainland itineraries. Employers should remind staff that Mainland China’s real-name ticketing rules apply; passports (or Home Return Permits for Hong Kong residents) must match the booking. Travellers accustomed to using company travel-management systems should validate that the new train numbers are live in global distribution systems to avoid last-minute ticket unavailability.
