The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) issued an exceptional consular alert on 22 July 2026 asking Brazilian nationals to cancel or postpone all non-essential trips to a dozen Middle-East destinations, including Iran, Israel, the Gaza Strip, southern Lebanon, Yemen and Syria. The warning follows a sudden escalation of cross-border missile and drone attacks between Iran-backed militias and Israeli forces that has disrupted regional aviation routes and prompted several Gulf carriers to curtail services. Although the alert is formally a recommendation—not a ban—it carries significant practical consequences for corporate mobility managers. Brazilian companies with staff on assignment or in transit through the region have been advised to activate duty-of-care protocols, double-check travel insurance coverage for conflict zones, and keep evacuation plans updated. The ministry emphasised that travellers already in the region should avoid demonstrations, refrain from photographing military sites, and ensure travel documents have at least six months’ validity. From a compliance perspective, the alert may affect short-notice business trips required for engineering, energy and defence contracts. Employers are being encouraged to re-route connecting flights via Europe rather than the Gulf and to rely on virtual meetings where feasible. Global mobility teams should also anticipate slower visa processing at Brazilian consulates in the affected countries, as many will be operating with reduced staff. Historically, Itamaraty issues fewer than five region-wide alerts per year; the last Middle-East-wide advisory dates back to October 2023. The timing—immediately before Brazil’s July industrial shutdown period—means thousands of holidaymakers could be forced to change plans, with knock-on effects for airlines and travel-management companies. The ministry said it will reassess the guidance weekly and urged Brazilian citizens to register on its “Brasileiros no Mundo” portal so they can receive real-time SMS updates.
