IRCC released a new online dashboard on July 22 that breaks down permanent-resident landings by program, province, gender and occupation in near real time. Previously, stakeholders relied on annual summaries or quarterly Open Data sets. The tool shows that between January 1 and June 30, 2026, Canada welcomed 230,450 new permanent residents—48% of the department’s annual target—with 62% arriving through economic programs. Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta captured 72% of the total, while Atlantic Canada saw a 9% share, buoyed by the Atlantic Immigration Program. For corporations, the granular reporting enables better workforce planning. Mobility managers can now compare internal relocation numbers with national trends and adjust foreign recruitment strategies toward under-subscribed provinces that may offer faster processing or additional incentives. The dashboard is also intended to counter misinformation about where newcomers settle and how quickly they integrate. However, privacy advocates note that occupation-level data could inadvertently identify individuals in smaller cohorts, urging IRCC to institute suppression thresholds. IRCC says future iterations will layer processing-time metrics and inventory levels, giving applicants and employers a “single window” view of system performance—a long-standing recommendation of the Auditor General.
