UK Updates Italy Travel Advice, Highlights Wildfire Disruptions for Summer Visitors
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) refreshed its travel-advice page for Italy on 22 July, keeping the status ‘no specific COVID-19 restrictions’ but adding prominent warnings about heightened wildfire risks as temperatures exceed seasonal averages. The advisory remains current at 22 July after an update on 14 July, but the FCDO has pushed notifications to subscribers in light of several fires near tourist corridors in Sicily and Sardinia. British and other international travellers are urged to monitor local media, heed Civil Protection alerts and check railway or motorway closures before moving between regions. The FCDO reminds travellers that wildfires can lead to precautionary evacuation orders and airport diversions, as happened at Catania–Fontanarossa earlier this month. From a mobility-management perspective, the renewed alert may influence corporate duty-of-care assessments, potentially triggering itinerary changes or requirement for satellite phones for field engineers working in rural areas. Insurers could reclassify certain zones as higher risk, affecting premiums or pre-trip approval thresholds. The page reiterates standard entry requirements for non-EU nationals—British citizens need a passport valid for three months beyond exit—and flags the upcoming introduction of the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) on 15 October 2026, advising travellers to allow extra time at automated border gates when it launches. Subscribers can sign up for further email updates; mobility teams should ensure employees register if travelling to affected regions during late July and August.
