Receita Federal pilots deferred import-tax payment under Portaria Coana 201
Portaria Coana No. 201/2026, released on 27 July, authorises a live test of deferred payment for import duties and taxes. While primarily a trade facilitation measure, the pilot could benefit global-mobility programmes that import household goods or project equipment by improving cash flow and speeding up release. During the test—limited to pre-selected Authorised Economic Operator (OEA) logistics firms—importers will clear goods immediately and settle taxes up to 30 days later via the digital collection document (DARF Único). Customs will monitor compliance in real time through Siscomex and may suspend privileges if discrepancies arise. If successful, the model could be extended to passenger shipments and unaccompanied baggage, reducing the financial burden on expatriates bringing high-value items into Brazil. Companies should liaise with their customs brokers to see whether they qualify for the pilot and update internal controls to track deferred liabilities.
