Bangladesh embassy urges expats to report UAE visa cancellations
The Bangladesh Embassy in Abu Dhabi has asked Bangladeshi citizens whose UAE residence visas were unexpectedly cancelled to submit detailed information so that Dhaka can build an accurate case file. In a 31 July circular, highlighted by Khaleej Times on 2 August, officials requested passport copies, Emirates ID numbers, employer details and the date of cancellation. Community groups have reported dozens of cases in which vacationing workers discovered their visas voided while outside the Emirates—a potential breach of the UAE’s normal 180-day outside-country rule. It is still unclear whether the cancellations stem from technical glitches, security vetting or sponsor-initiated actions. The embassy said it is coordinating with the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security to clarify the cause. For employers, the episode is a reminder to monitor PRO (public-relations-officer) portals for any silent cancellations affecting staff who are on leave. Mobility managers should advise Bangladeshi assignees to carry printed employment contracts and sponsor NOCs when re-entering the UAE until the investigation concludes. Should systemic errors be confirmed, affected workers may need to apply for new entry permits, potentially triggering medical-test and Emirates ID fees that sponsors will have to absorb. Payroll teams must also prepare for contingencies if employees are stranded abroad. The embassy has provided hotline numbers and an email template titled “Visa Cancellation Issue – [Your Name]”. Timely reporting will help both governments determine whether policy tweaks or technical fixes are required to protect legitimate workers.
