Qatar introduces mandatory cholera-vaccination certificate for passengers arriving from India
The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority issued a revision to its Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) on 3 August, adding a public-health requirement that affects all commercial passengers arriving from India and Pakistan. Effective 6 August 2026, travellers from the two countries must present a certificate proving inoculation against cholera before clearing immigration. Although cholera outbreaks have been limited to isolated districts in India’s eastern corridor, Qatar’s health ministry said the measure is precautionary and temporary. Airlines operating India–Doha sectors—including IndiGo, Air India Express, Qatar Airways and Vistara—have begun notifying passengers via SMS. Those without a certificate will be denied boarding at the point of origin, adding a new layer of compliance for corporate travel managers. For mobility teams this means updating pre-trip medical checklists and liaising with approved vaccination clinics; India’s Bureau of Immigration recognises WHO-certified oral cholera vaccines administered at least 10 days before departure. Travellers transiting Doha for onward connections are exempt if they remain airside. The policy echoes similar disease-control steps that Gulf states took during the 2022-23 lumpy-skin outbreak and underscores how public-health measures can re-emerge suddenly even after the COVID-19 era. Businesses with frequent GCC travel should verify vaccination records alongside visas and PCR test archives to avoid costly last-minute disruptions.
