Mumbai Customs Zone III quietly published revised ‘Arrival Passenger Guidelines’ on 28 July 2026, aligning airport procedures with India’s new Baggage Rules 2026. The update boosts the general duty-free allowance for residents, persons of Indian origin and foreigners with valid (non-tourist) visas from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000 and permits one laptop per adult passenger free of duty. Unlike the national master circular released in March, today’s notice clarifies that the higher allowance applies only to air arrivals; passengers entering via land borders continue to receive no general exemption. The document also reminds travellers that Green-Channel declarations are legally binding and that misuse can trigger prosecution. For global-mobility teams coordinating short-term assignments or rotational travel, the higher limits reduce customs costs on personal electronics and professional equipment. However, the list of excluded goods—firearms, large quantities of tobacco or alcohol, television sets and commercial-quantity merchandise—remains unchanged. Airlines operating into Mumbai must update in-flight customs briefings, while relocation providers should ensure transferees download the CBIC ‘ATITHI’ mobile app to pre-declare currency or dutiable items and avoid delays at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
