‘No French ATC strike today’—Wego update reassures corporate flyers
Travel-search platform Wego confirmed in a 14 September blog update that no French air-traffic-control (ATC) industrial action is scheduled this week, easing fears of repeat disruption for passengers routing through France on intra-European hops. The assurance comes after a turbulent summer marked by four rolling ATC strikes that forced carriers to cancel 3 500 flights, many of them merely overflying French airspace. Business-travellers had started building 24-hour buffers into itineraries or shifting to rail for meetings in Paris, Lyon and Marseille. Although France’s largest ATC union, the SNCTA, is still in pay negotiations, the union has served no new strike notices covering the period to 30 September. Airlines therefore expect normal operations barring weather disruptions. Mobility managers should nonetheless keep pre-approved contingency plans in place, as French ATC can legally strike with five days’ notice.
