CBSA Removes 111 Foreign Nationals Linked to Extortion Networks
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced on September 14 that 111 individuals connected to nationwide extortion schemes have been removed from Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Overall, officers have issued 188 removal orders since the initiative began, prioritising cases in British Columbia, the Prairies and the Greater Toronto Area. The enforcement surge follows a 2025 allocation of CA$30.4 million under Canada’s Border Plan to boost removal capacity to 20,000 cases annually. CBSA says it now removes about 400 inadmissible persons each week, with special attention to criminality and organised-crime links. Four recent high-profile cases, including individuals involved in firearms offences and forcible confinement, illustrate the agency’s zero-tolerance approach. Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree framed the operation as a public-safety imperative, stressing inter-agency cooperation and intelligence-sharing. Companies employing foreign nationals should verify work-permit validity and admissibility to avoid unexpected workforce disruptions. CBSA encourages the public to report tips via its Border Watch Line, signalling continued reliance on community intelligence. The announcement is a reminder that compliance enforcement is accelerating alongside Canada’s ambitious immigration targets. Employers and immigration counsel should expect more workplace inspections and background-check requests as CBSA scales its investigative resources.
