Poland’s Customs Service (KAS) has warned haulage companies that the Medyka–Shehyni crossing, the second-busiest freight gate on the Polish-Ukrainian border, will operate on a single lane between 07:30 and 11:00 on 14 September because of resurfacing works on the Polish approach road. The notice, published on the PUESC electronic customs portal at 08:52 local time, advises drivers to divert to Korczowa or Dorohusk if possible and reminds carriers that electronic queue registration remains mandatory. Medyka routinely processes up to 1,200 trucks a day. Even a partial lane closure can extend wait times well beyond the four-hour maintenance window because inbound freight traffic peaks in the early afternoon. The Border Guard said that additional staff would be deployed to speed up document checks, but industry groups such as the Association of International Road Transport Carriers (ZMPD) forecast residual queues lasting into the evening. For companies shipping temperature-sensitive or just-in-time components, the advice is to build at least 12 hours of buffer into delivery schedules for the 14-15 September cycle. Polish exporters of automotive parts to Ukraine and Ukrainian agribusiness suppliers shipping oilseed meal to EU markets via Poland are likely to feel the greatest impact. The works are part of a €18 million EU-co-funded upgrade aimed at doubling Medyka’s freight capacity by 2028. Completion of the current phase will allow dynamic lane allocation based on real-time traffic data, a change expected to reduce average truck dwell time by 30 percent. Until then, logistics planners should monitor the official Border Guard “Asystent Granica” app for live updates before dispatching vehicles.
