Warsaw orders tighter coordination at Ukraine border after drone attacks
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced in the early hours of 14 September that Poland will introduce “additional, permanent measures” at all crossings with Ukraine following Russian drone strikes that hit a fuel depot and a Kyiv-Warsaw train just inside Ukrainian territory. After an emergency meeting of the Government Security Centre, Tusk said the military, police, Border Guard and Customs would run a single command structure to prevent critical queues of tankers and passenger coaches forming in strike-vulnerable zones. New protocols include dynamic lane closures, remote document pre-checks and joint drone-detection patrols. The prime minister stressed that Polish airspace had not been breached but warned businesses that the frontier is now a “high-risk logistics corridor.” Hauliers moving hazardous cargo may be subject to unannounced inspections and rerouting. The announcement follows a summer of stepped-up Russian activity near NATO borders and comes as EU capitals debate a seventh extension of temporary internal border controls. Corporate travel teams should revisit duty-of-care plans for staff transiting Lviv or using rail links via Dorohusk.
