Individuals already use the app for local e-government tasks, but the upgrade will let directors sign employment contracts, submit visa sponsorship forms and pay import duties electronically. Companies onboarding expatriates will therefore be able to lodge Notification-of-Change and dependent-visa applications entirely online, reducing processing times the Immigration Department says currently average 10 working days. A parallel project will pilot mutual recognition of Hong Kong and Guangdong digital certificates, meaning GBA-based assignees could open Hong Kong bank accounts or register tax files without a physical visit. Cyber-security specialists note that the cross-border rollout will hinge on data-sharing agreements that respect both Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and Mainland cybersecurity law. A public consultation will open in Q4 2026. For mobility teams the frictionless digital identity promises less paperwork, especially for frequent travellers who currently juggle multiple portal log-ins and physical chops. Vendors of relocation-management software are already sprinting to integrate IAM Smart APIs so HR can trigger visa renewals and address updates directly from global mobility dashboards.
