Federal Court e-filing outage set for 19 September may delay last-minute immigration appeals
The Federal Court of Canada has issued a notice of scheduled maintenance that will take its e-filing portal and several related electronic tools offline on Saturday, 19 September from 07:00 to 19:00 ET. The downtime overlaps with the final weekend before autumn session deadlines for many immigration and refugee judicial-review applications. Law firms scrambling to file leave motions should either advance their submissions to 18 September or prepare courier packages for physical filing at Registry counters that remain open. Under the Court’s rules, electronic timestamps normally determine whether a filing is considered on time; when the system is down, paper filings received at a Registry office before closing hours will suffice. For corporates, the outage chiefly affects last-minute attempts to stay removals or challenge negative Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) decisions. Mobility managers should liaise with counsel to confirm whether any pending cases require urgent action and adjust employee travel plans accordingly. The Courts Administration Service says the maintenance will improve cybersecurity resilience and pave the way for a new document-management interface slated for roll-out in 2027. Users can check the Court’s homepage for real-time status updates.
