Germany’s Foreign Office has updated its Kenya safety bulletin (stand: 5 October 2026) to warn of an intensified rainy season linked to El Niño between October and December. The advisory forecasts flooding, landslides and sudden road washouts—risks that could strand staff at rural project sites. The update comes as German construction and renewable-energy companies accelerate work on road and mini-grid contracts in Turkana and West Pokot counties before year-end milestones. Logistics providers already report sporadic bridge closures on the A3 corridor, and aviation authorities caution that airstrips in the North Rift may become unusable during heavy rains. The Foreign Office urges travellers to stockpile food and water for several days, carry functioning satellite phones and avoid riverbeds during storms. It also reiterates long-standing security warnings for Mandera, Garissa and parts of Lamu because of terrorist threats from Al-Shabaab. Corporate security consultants advise scheduling non-essential site visits for January 2027, moving sensitive equipment before mid-November and arranging medical evacuation cover that includes airlift from remote areas. HR teams should re-evaluate emergency-contact chains and ensure that local drivers have defensive-driving certification. Failure to heed the guidance could expose employers to liability under Germany’s 2023 Corporate Due Diligence in Supply Chains Act, which requires companies to mitigate foreseeable health and safety risks abroad.
