The Ministry of the Interior has announced that its Prague I immigration office at Žukovského 888/2 is “exceptionally closed” from 5 to 8 October 2026 due to urgent technical repairs. The office handles biometric data collection, residence-permit renewals and Blue-Card conversions for foreigners living in the central and northern districts of Prague. Ministry staff are contacting all clients with existing appointments to rebook them within the next two weeks; priority is being given to applicants whose legal stay would otherwise expire during the closure. Foreign nationals with time-sensitive matters—such as registering a new address, collecting a residence sticker or obtaining a confirmation of legal stay—may instead visit the Prague II office in Chodov without an appointment between 8:00 and 14:00. The ministry warns, however, that walk-in capacity is limited and recommends using the on-line reservation system where possible. Although the closure lasts only four business days, relocation providers say the ripple effects could persist for several weeks. Renewals that slip past statutory deadlines incur a late-filing penalty of CZK 1,000 per person; employers sponsoring employee-cards risk fines of up to CZK 500,000 for delayed biometrics. Mobility managers are therefore advised to audit pending cases immediately and flag any files with expiry dates before 30 October. The Prague I site is one of three capital-city branches equipped with the new fingerprint-scanning kiosks required for residence-cards issued after the full entry into force of the EU Entry/Exit System last April. Engineers will use the downtime to recalibrate the kiosks and upgrade building security, part of a CZK 35 million modernisation drive scheduled through 2027. All Interior Ministry immigration offices and call-centre lines will also be closed on upcoming Czech public holidays—28 September (St Wenceslas Day) and 28 October (Independence Day). Companies with key-date dependencies should plan filings accordingly, as electronic submissions via data box are time-stamped but still require in-person biometric capture within five working days.
