Trenitalia has published a revised timetable for 10 October after Italy’s Civil Protection Department upgraded parts of Calabria to a red weather warning. Key sections of the Salerno–Reggio Calabria corridor will see slower speeds or full suspensions between Lamezia Terme and Rosarno, while regional trains on the Reggio Calabria–Crotone axis may be cancelled. Frecciarossa and Intercity long-distance services will operate but could incur delays of up to 60 minutes. Freight trains carrying perishables from Sicily to northern Italy are being rerouted via the Jonica line, which has higher axle-load limits but longer transit times. Trenitalia advises passengers to check real-time updates and consider travel on Sunday if flexibility allows. The pre-emptive measures aim to avoid a repeat of last year’s flash-flood incident that left 300 passengers stranded overnight near Vibo Valentia. Track-side sensors installed after that event have already detected minor subsidence in two locations, prompting the conservative operational approach. Companies with staff or cargo transiting Calabria should activate contingency plans, including advance hotel bookings near major hubs and buffer days in delivery schedules.
