Naples Airport issues alert for 16 October easyJet cabin-crew strike
Naples International Airport (Capodichino) has published a passenger notice warning of a 24-hour nationwide strike by easyJet’s Italian cabin crew scheduled for Friday 16 October. The advisory, posted on the airport’s official website on 9 October, cautions travellers that both delays and outright flight cancellations are probable between 00:00 and 23:59 local time. EasyJet operates up to 40 daily movements from Naples, including key business routes to Milan Malpensa, London Gatwick and Paris Charles de Gaulle. A full-day stoppage therefore risks stranding several thousand passengers and interrupting crucial supply-chain links for southern Italy’s textile and pharmaceutical exporters who rely on the carrier’s belly-hold capacity. Under EU261/2004 compensation rules, strikes that originate within an airline’s own workforce generally entitle affected passengers to care, rerouting or refund options. Employers with staff on Italian or Mediterranean projects next week should proactively identify critical legs on easyJet’s network and, where possible, rebook on alternative carriers such as ITA Airways or Wizz Air. Travellers transiting via Naples to reach cruise departures in Sorrento or business meetings along the Campania coast should allow extra buffer time or consider rail connections via Rome. The dispute, organised by the FILT-CGIL and UILT-UIL unions, centres on long-running demands for salary alignment with competitor airlines and improved roster stability. Earlier talks mediated by Italy’s Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) failed to reach agreement, prompting the fresh 16 October action. For mobility managers the key takeaway is the growing frequency of sector-specific strikes across Italian aviation. Maintaining an updated risk calendar and pushing real-time alerts to travellers’ mobile apps can minimise last-minute scrambles and duty-of-care exposures.
