The Transport Department has issued traffic advice warning drivers of temporary lane closures on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) western section to allow road works on 14, 15, 20 and 21 October. Between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on those dates, different lane combinations towards Zhuhai and Macao will be blocked, leaving a single live lane and potentially lengthening journey times. Although the works occur outside normal peak hours, logistics firms moving time-critical freight—especially temperature-controlled goods heading to Macau’s hotel sector—should plan for delays. The Transport Department will post electronic signs and deploy patrol teams but urges motorists to “drive with care and patience.” Travel-management companies are advising clients to consider alternative crossings, such as Shenzhen Bay, for morning departures. Bus operators running HZMB shuttle services say schedules may slip by up to 20 minutes and have updated mobile-app alerts accordingly. For mobility managers relocating staff or arranging house-hold-goods moves between the GBA’s three cities, the notice is a reminder to double-check customs appointment slots, as late arrivals can trigger re-booking fees. Insurers also stress that cross-boundary trucking policies may exclude cover if drivers ignore officially published diversions. Normal three-lane operations will resume after 5 p.m. each day, and no closures are planned for the Chung Yeung Festival long weekend on 17–18 October.
