Poland’s Government Security Centre (RCB) activated its SMS alert system in the early hours of 11 October after Russian forces launched another wave of missiles at western Ukraine. Residents of Lublin and Sub-Carpathian voivodeships received bilingual Polish-Ukrainian messages warning of possible cross-border airspace incursions and advising them to stay indoors until further notice. In parallel, the Polish Air Force scrambled F-16 and MiG-29 fighters to patrol the eastern frontier. According to a Ministry of Defence statement, the aircraft remained aloft for roughly seven hours before standing down at 08:00 CET. Commercial flights were not suspended, but air-traffic controllers at Rzeszów and Lublin temporarily rerouted departures to avoid military sectors, causing delays of up to 30 minutes on LOT flights to Warsaw and Lufthansa services to Frankfurt. The episode underscores Poland’s heightened sensitivity to spill-over from Russia’s war on Ukraine and its willingness to employ both military assets and civilian alert tools. For multinational employers the practical takeaway is that sudden "RCB alert" messages may become an occasional feature of life in the east; global mobility managers should brief staff on how to interpret the warnings and maintain contingency plans for temporary flight disruptions. Foreign nationals staying in the affected regions are not required to register with local authorities, but the U.S. and Canadian embassies reiterated standard advice to keep passports handy and follow instructions from Polish services. Insurance providers confirmed that travel-medical coverage remains valid, but some policies exclude acts of war—companies may wish to verify rider clauses for employees whose roles demand frequent border travel.
